Independece Day Celebration in Kotabaru

Indonesia had got its Indepence on August 17, 1945. It means that Indonesia has been an Independece County for 62 years. And it always be commemorated in every single part of Indonesia, and for kotabaru, it is just like an annual routine activity. This commemoration is usually done by having CARNAVAL COMPETITION in where every school must compete each other by showing its characteristic. One of the schools is mine, SMAN 2 Kotabaru ( Senior High School), and just for the information, our school always be the 1st winner. Nowadays, it becomes the winner for the sixth times. We presented a CAN DRUMBAND-" DRUMBAND KALENG" ( a drumband using biscuits can) accompanied by some musics instruments to make it sounds better. This presentation always attracts some audiences attention. It is such a trivial thing to do, but the creativity is always be paid with the victory.

Hi dear all,

After for long times i did not upload any news here, now i try to upload several news around my students and my activity . For last 2 months i was so busy to prepare my students final examination. Beside that i was so busy to arrange new curricullum with name " KTSP", it so complecated. Here some pictures about my students activity:

Lets' Shared Prosperity!!

During these weeks, most of Indonesian ALCoB Volunteers have been busy in preparing their students to face National Final Examination. This examination is considered important because it decides the students’ graduation.

Here is the experience of one of Indonesian ALCoB Volunteer who lives in isolated island.

On Sunday, April 8th 2007, me with four friends of mine represented English Testing and Training Center SMKN 1 Kotabaru, visited and tested several schools both Junior and High school in Batu Licin. This region is part of Kota Baru which is separated by the sea.The test was held in SMK Kodeco

Since we didn’t want to miss the ferry to Batu Licin, we had to depart early in the morning, riding three motor cycles to go to the ferry port. It is about 45 Km from Kota Baru to Batu Licin. At 08.00 sharp, we reached the port. Thanks God, there was a fery which was ready to depart, so we didn’t waste our time

It spent about 45 minutes to across the sea. The weather was so nice because there had been heavy rain the day before. It was considered our luck because we forgot to wrap the paper box with plastic. Can you imagine what would happen if there was rain ?.There were several good views that I took with my digital camera.

Around 08.45 we reached BatuLicin Port. Then, we had to pass the muddy street with many holes about 5 Km to get to SMK Kodeco. This slippery street made me difficult to speed my motor cycle. So we arrived there about 09.10, after two times lost.

Oh my goodness, the school was still locked and no body there. Where were the folks ?.
While waiting, we tried to call one of the teacher to make sure whether the test was held that day. It was true that the test would be held that day. Since we still had much time, we could be relax and taking some pictures.

I remembered the head master, who was my close friend. I missed him so much because we had not meet for two years.

At 09.30, the vice headmaster and several teachers came. I knew most of them , Mr Daelam, Zaenal, and Wid. From Mr. Daelam I got the news that Mr Yuli, the last headmaster was not there anymore because he was accepted as a civil servant. Now he is teaching at SMAN 1 Pagatan, its about 20 Km from Batu Licin. And the way to get there …..?!, it need more then an hour from here. Yeah…. When will we meet again ?.

Fortunately there was a good news that could ease my pain. The TOEIC test participant increase became 110 students. Because we only brought 80 test sheets, the test was held in two term. Congratulation for the school committee. It was the greatest number of participant that ever had in Batu Licin.

The first term started at 10 am up to 12.00 and was continued by second term up to 14.00.
Having finished the test, we had to be back to Kota Baru hurriedly. If we hadn’t done so, we would have arrived at Kota Baru in the night. It is dangerous to be in the jungle in the night.

Unfortunately, it was heavy rain when we reached Batu Licin Port. Moreover, we had to wait for the ferry for an hour.

We arrived home before 6 pm. Though feeling tired, I felt so happy because I had met old friends, shared experiences and planned the next activities. I heard sad song in the deep side of my heart because 3 hours couldn’t erase 2 years separated from my close friends.
That’s life, there is meeting and there is farewell. However, the beautiful memory always remind in our deep heart . Therefore lets share prosperity with others !!!

The Sweet Memory of Busan

Friendship Gathered from Busan

On October 31st-November 9th, 2006, eleven Indonesian teachers were invited to join 1st APEC e-Learning Training program in Busan, South Korea.

To join that training, they had to struggle hard in passing the two kind tough selections. First, English test delivered by Balitbang that consist of a kind of TOEFL test and writing test. The second test was personality selection done by Mr. Young hwan Kim, Ph.D.

The Indonesian teachers selected were :
1. Riki mochamad, the Chemistry Teacher of SMA Negeri 1 Bandung.
2. Ali Arham, the English Teacher of SMA 7 Balikpapan.
3. Misrun, the English, Photoshop & video Editing Teacher of SMK Negeri 3 Mataram.
4. Budi Priantoro, the History Teacher of SMK kristamitra Semarang.
5. I Nyoman Rudi Kurniawan, the Computer Teacher of SMK Negeri 1 Kotabaru.
6. Sri Winarsih, the math Teacher of SMK Negeri 3 Balikpapan.
7. Citra Apsari, the English teacher of SMK Negeri 1 Bandung.
8. Asri Widiapsari, the English Teacher of SMA Negeri 4 Malang.
9. Taufik Syahmardan, the English Teacher of SMA Negeri 1 Kotabaru.
10. Marryenti, the English teacher of SMK Negeri 1 Solok.
11. I Ketut Suparsa, the Web Design Teacher of SMK Negeri 1 Denpasar.

During training in Busan, they performed very well. Beside tough cooperation, they also showed their high spirit of nationalism. It was proved that at the last of the meeting, Mr. Kim invited them to a small meeting and saying that they were a solid team. Moreover he asked them to make a small project, especially for English tea
cher. The project was aimed to enhance the students’ achievement in English.
Going home, their spirit of togetherness didn’t last. To maintain their friendship, I Nyoman Rudi kurniawan provoked his friends to make two projects. The first was “Let’s Do Together”, that was aimed to motivate the English teachers to cooperate well in enhancing their students’ achievement. The second project was “Miss U Babe”, that was aimed to connect students among various Island in Indonesia and others in APEC Region

The project proposers, I Nyoman, Asri , Sri Winarsih and misrun dedicated this project to make Alcob indonesia be the best. They believed that the sense of friendship and volunteer is the best solution to solve educational problems in our beloved country, Indonesia.

The Story from Kota Baru

I Nyoman Wandered Through the Borneo Jungle

On December 31st to January 1st, I Nyoman Rudi Kurniawan prefered going to Betung Village (± 40 KM East of Kota Baru),Bekambit Village (± 43 KM East of Kota Baru), and Megasari (± 20 KM West of Kota Baru) to introduce Computer for transmigrants’ children to having new year vacation.

Thinking about no progress in teaching and learning process in Kota baru, he assumed that in the isolated area was worse than this. Therefore, on new year holliday he and his friends, specialist doctor, head of distric police department, information officer, and two students of SMK prefer teaching computer for transmigrants’ children to having fun. And to make that activity which was done for two days worked well and not boring, game and information from the police world were given.

There were 20 participants, the youngest was fifth grade of elementary school and the oldest was junior high school students. The students who joined that activity were the representative of every village. Considering there was non risky access and an electry city availability, the activity was held in Megasari. Since, 900 watt electrycity couldn’t cover the usage of 2 PC, 2 laptop, and one Sony LCD, generator is needed. The training materials such as modul and handout were given freely because they decided not to burden the participants. The participants were only asked to bring their own food.

The training was started from 08.00 up to 22.00 WITA. At 11.00 o’clock, they had a break for cooking lunch food, and at 17.00 o’clock for cooking dinner food.

The thing that made him happy was the parents attention. They gave sincere attention and help. I Nyoman and his friends were never run out of fresh vegetables and fruits such as mangoes and durians. It was so great.

The valuable thing got by his students was they got the meaningful lesson from that activity. They should thank God that there were a lot of friends whose condition worse than them.

The other lesson got by I Nyoman team was they should prepare and consider the situation well. The Sony LCD brought was burned (luckily it happened at the end of the training) because the electricity produced by generator was not stable, and the villager’s stavolt didn’t work well. Luckily, there was a doctor who financially helped to overcome the problem. Next time they should bring a good UPS.

This training was considered success because there are two villages waiting for them. These village are so far away and have to cross the ocean. Do any others Alcober want to join ?.

Training in Samarinda

I took this pictures when i joint at training about " how to use multimedia devices for teaching " in Samarinda several days ago ( since 27th of dec until 29th of dec 2006). This training opened at Grand Jamrud 2 samarinda and it was opened by chief of our Province's Department of education Mr Syafrudin Pernyata ( second pic) . It was very great a chance to learn more about IT and all participant seem so enthusiastic until end of this training.In my free time i try to introduce about Alcobs to several friend from others city and one of my friend interested about that so he will try to arrange a proposal to Balitbang and ask about socialize Alcob in samarinda.

The legend of Coban Rondo

Once upon a time there lived a just married couple, Dewi Anjarwati from Kawi mountain and Raden Baron Kusuma from Anjasmoro mountain who wanted to go for honey moon.

Because of before selapan (40 days) marriage, their parents forbade them to go. However, they insisted on leaving and facing any possibilities that might happen. On the way, they were surprished by the appearance of Joko Lelono, who was not clear where he came from. It seemed Joko lelono fell in love with her and tried to grab her away.

The fighting was inevitable. Raden baron asked his punokawan (servant) who accompanied them to hide dewi Anjarwati at the place where there was coban (water fall). The tough fighting cause both of them passed away. And Dewi Anjarwati became rondo (widow).

Since then, Coban Rondo was the place where Dewi Anjarwati had been waiting for his beloved husband. It is believed that the big stone under the water fall was the place where dewi Anjarwati sat on.

So sorry that i did give any news in our web for last several weeks. I just little bit busy with my school works and i try to contact our friends from korea, chile, thailand, and china. Ok now i will report what all i get from my effort to contact them. Fisrt Mrs Shon Mi (our advisor ) have replied my email and she said that she will help us to find Korean teacher for joint our project, even she tried to ask some help to her husband about that. Second Mr. Joel (pocharaj jatupol ) from Thailand could help us if we have a problem about web design, Mr Michael or Habibi will joints with us with pleasure and he alredy invited me in their mailing list (Apec Elearning of Thailand members ) , their group is http://groups-beta.google.com/group/apec-thailand, so try to visit it sometimes. They will have anothers workshop on next march, its will be two round workshops , so if u interesting to attend that workshop just acces all information from this sites or contact habibi bye sending email to vduangchinda@gmail.com. The Sweet Memory of Mbak Asri's Beloved Grand Pa

These pictures show us how virgin malang in the past was. Grand pa was right by saying that Malang was called Parish van Java. Its beautiful scenery, cool weather and fresh air have caused many old dutches fail to forget their sweet memory left. Can we erase our sweet memory ???.

Is it natural disaster or human error?

Lets reflect to what have we done to our beloved environment. Are we wise enough to treath them?. It seems that our selfishness has disturb the balancing of the nature. To whom should we blame, God, Nature or human ?.

We are created to live in harmonious with our environtment.If one of us fell suffer, it will disturb the other. Think about there is night and daylight, white and black, hot and cold, cry and smile also birth and death . These phenomena are the evidence that everything should be in balance.

We are as the future generation teachers should teach our students how to love our environment.

The simple thing such as, how to keep our school environment clean and create green athmosphere are a starting point to foster their sense of love.

The duty of teacher actually not only delivering teaching materials but educate the students how to behave well. Honestly, most of us are trapped to be proud of the students' intelligence rather than their nice behaviour. Here, who is to be blame ?.

Give them the sense of love and to be loved.

Sense of solidarity is also important. Since we are a social human being, we can not live alone.

Touch the students careness to others by showing them how suffer the victim of natural disaster. Ask them to give their hands, not just talking.

However, after sadness there will be happiness.

We don't know the plan of beloved God.

Teach the students how to get moral value from the bitterness of life. For example, this tragedy become the sources of getting fund. The Lapindo's mud today become the tourism spot.

I had to pay Rp. 5000,- for parking my car and Rp. 2000,- for entering the place.

Can you imagine if there is no sollution for this tragedy ?.

The mud will flow over the railway and highway nearby that cause mbak Asri can not go to Surabaya.

Thanks God, at last the local government let the mud to be flown into Porong river.

Pancet Papatai Dance
This dance is perform when peoples in Dayak have a war with their enemies. This dances is full of movement , full of spirit and sometimes it follow with the dancer’s scream. In This dance the dancer wear traditional clothes and bring traditional weapon too like “ mandau”, “ sheild” and “ clothes for war". This dance use traditional music as ilustration name “ sak paku “ and this music use traditional instrument musical call "sampe".

I will try to discribe/explain how to operate our project.

1. According ms.Lis suggestion, that the first step for make our project
runnig well is use/create web for invite and gathering student' from
our economy or other. in this case we have a problem for got a domain/hosting.
We limited with the time (money too), so our solution is we can try to use a free hosting
like mine (www.inyomanrudi.blogspot.com). If you agree with me, I'll do it
as soon as possible.

2. students' who wants join with us (our project) should subscribe first to us
(of course every teacher should keep courtesy and comportable
of sudents who will uploaded article to our web, I mean every teacher should
respond with their students', give an advice, suggestion and so on). And than
if they will input or up load data/article they should send it to our mail
and then we will upload that content. So, every students' or member can
give a comment or down load only, They cant change web contents'.

3. It might be students' will feel not good, but we must protect our students'
from mistake.

4. OK Lets do it together and Miss U babe.
